Our changing world, with climate threats and resource scarcity, demands a change to the traditional ways of designing, building and furnishing our homes.
Vineyard Cottage at Sempre Eco Retreat is a gorgeous example of design inspired by a desire for sustainability, with owner Bianca Lucille Antunes prioritising slow living, respect for craftsman and for the natural environment in the design of her self-built country cottage. Situated in the stunning Overberg Valley in South Africa, their gorgeous home is made literally from the clay it rests on.
"My design philosophy is one that takes inspiration from nature and endeavours to create nourishing spaces - our cottage is the perfect representation of my design style. When it came to the interiors I took the lead from the build itself. A handcrafted home furnished with handcrafted pieces - Malawi Cane is a perfect companion to our cottage. From the woven pendant light fixtures and the traditional seaters to the floor mats and baskets, all made with care by hand and completely sustainable. Just like our home."
For Bianca and her partner Rob, Vineyard Cottage is just the start of their vision, with a guest retreat and their dream home next on their list, all completely off-grid with solar power, harvested rain water and built with endemic local and recycled materials.
The overall vision for Bianca is to "embrace the beauty in simplicity, encourage a slower pace and improve wellbeing.....to create a safe, intentional home which lives in harmony with its surroundings."
We're honoured to be chosen to be part of Sempre's evolution, which acknowledges the craftsmanship and sustainability or our beautiful pieces. Follow Bianca on @bianca_lucille for more inspiration on sustainable design, slow living and authentic home styling.
